LightLife Smoky Tempeh Strips Review
This week’s first post is about the LightLife Smoky Tempeh Strips! When I did eat meat, I enjoyed BLT sandwiches. I have only found a few bacon alternatives so far. The one I have gotten a few times now is the LightLife smoky tempeh strips. These strips do have a smoky flavor and are great for BLTs! I honestly don’t really care for them by themselves though. Being with the other ingredients in a BLT sandwich helps make the intense flavor of these strips a little mellower. When you eat them by themselves, the flavor is just a little off in my opinion. It’s a hard flavor to describe, slightly sweet but also strong (maybe the cider vinegar mixed with the soy sauce?) Also, they look so odd! 😂
Nutrition Facts
What’s awesome about these strips is you get 4 per serving which is good since you need several for a BLT sandwich. They also don’t have much fat, there is dietary fiber, and plenty of protein! Not surprising, they are a little high in sodium though.
Cooking
These smoky tempeh strips are very easy to cook. As the instructions say, just put some oil in a pan and wait for them to get crispy. I would recommend flipping them also though. They are pretty flimsy, but I end up breaking them in half anyway so they fit easier on a BLT sandwich. To be honest, I haven’t tried them in other dishes. I believe if you mix them in dishes they would be better though. As I said, the flavor is just too intense by themselves and the texture is a little chewy.
Stores
I have found these LightLife smoky tempeh strips at Giant and Whole Foods.
I have tried another alternative bacon that I will definitely make a post about in the future! For now, I’d say these LightLife smoky tempeh strips are just okay. I have eaten them several times but mostly in a BLT sandwich. If you do decide to try them out, let me know what you think! 😉
